Why we give.
At Ottawa Bible Church we value the opportunities to give as a means of worship: God gave us Jesus, so we believe in being a generous church.
In Mark 12:41-44, Jesus uses the poor widow’s offering of “two small copper coins” as an object lesson for healthy giving. Unlike the religious hypocrites who used their giving for self-exaltation, Jesus celebrates this poor woman’s faith by saying that “she put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all gave out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, and all she had to live on.” Jesus uses her example to reveal the true inward motive of giving: love.
